Rowdy Crowds for Triumphant sports season January 22, 2015 Victoria Kwaben
Tuesday, January 13, Joliet Catholic students and faculty met in an assembly to rally and share the success of Joliet Catholic’s winter sports teams. The event opened with an engaging performance of the cheerleaders’ new short routine, “Bang Bang.” The center stage was then handed off to Hillzone Cameron Haney, where he had the captains for each of the winter sports teams introduce their teammates. The winter sports are well on their way to an exciting and successful season!
Varsity Basketball girls began the season shakily, though are rapidly catching up and have a record of thirteen and six. The Varsity boys have earned a record of ten and eight, something that has not been done for some time. Lastly, the Hockey team is dominating the ice and has a record of nine and two.
The dance team, who is preparing for nationals, then performed a vivacious dance; raising the spirits so high, it has been reported to have seen a kid standing on his seat, and dancing along to the song! Following, Mr. Gura took the mic and as always continued the laughs and high spirits of the crowd. Gura chose two teachers, Staley and Scheibe (English), to entertain the students with a free-throw competition. As predicted by Gura, “Scheibe kicks Staley’s butt” beating him by one point. After another short competition between two athletic students, the assembly ended, leaving the student body to revel in the success of Joliet Catholic’s Winter Sports and to encourage Hillzone support.
