movie Review: Into the woods january 23, 2015 Tiffany taylor
The long-awaited movie version of the Broadway musical Into the Woods was recently released this past Christmas Eve. Produced by Disney, there were a few differences between the film and the stge musical, such as the plot development and the character concepts.
Being an avid theatre connoisseur, I found the movie to be quite enjoyable, although many things were changed from the actual stage production. The casting choices were made very well, and the actors had great voices to match their characters. Portrayed by James Corden and Emily Blunt, the characters of the Baker and Baker's Wife are the central characters in the story of Into the Woods, along with Meryl Streep as the Witch, Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, Lilla Crawford as Little Red Riding Hood, Chris Pine as Cinderella's Prince, and Johnny Depp as the Wolf. The cast shines brightly, making a name for the stage production, as well.
Set for an Off-Broadway revival this year, Into the Woods basked in the glow of its box office success, bringing in a whopping $31,051,923 during its opening weekend alone. I would highly recommend this movie if you are a fan of plot twists and great music.
