JCA Band Strikes Big 27 February 2015 tiffany taylor
The talented band at JCA has been working very hard since the beginning of the semester to produce wonderful music that will be played at their upcoming concert this month. Spending every 8th period with each other, the JCA band is a tight-knit group of musicians who love to play their instruments. The band consists of 21 members and is comprised of different sections of particular instruments, such as woodwinds, percussion, and brass. Some of the band members are offering their skills to the orchestra pit of this year's spring musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie.
This serves as a great opportunity for them, because they will get to work closely with the professional musicians who will also be playing in the pit who serve as the backbone of the orchestra as a whole. The band, directed by Ms. Szynal, have been perfecting their pieces for their upcoming concert. They will be performing various small ensemble pieces, where the band splits up into different groups based on what instruments work and sound best with each other, and each small ensemble will be showcasing 2 pieces. There are also a plethora of songs that the band will be playing together as a whole.
They have introduced a new aspect called the "prism concert", where the band surrounds the audience rather than the traditional audience setup. This will allow the audience to capture the essence of the music surrounding them. Also, band members are given the opportunity to take part in the IHSA Solo Contest, where they can audition and compete with other musicians around the state. The JCA Band is accomplishing many great things this year, and hopes to continue on with their legacy for years to come.
