The weather report for New Lenox on Wednesday night, five degrees. The report on the Angels basketball team...on fire. The girls basketball team started off the post season with a convincing 73-51 win over the host Celtics.
Led by Junior Nicki Ekhomu, the Angels were able to pull away from the higher seeded team with under one minute to play in the first half. Leaving the floor for the locker room, JCA boasted a fifteen point lead over Providence.
Coming out in the second half, the Angles never looked back; extending that lead to over twenty points. Providence battled back pulling within fourteen points in the third quarter, yet some strong defensive stands and sharp shooting from the wings allowed the team to pull away and solidify their advancement into the Regional Finals.
JCA will square off Lincoln-Way West (22-1) Friday night at Providence Catholic at 7pm. #1 seeded West, a 71-49 victor over Morris, has had an outstanding season and will be a challenge for the #3 seeded Angels.
