THe Buzz of catholic schools week January 14, 2015 Tiffany Taylor
National Catholic Schools Week will be celebrated during the week of January 25 - 31. The theme for this year's celebration is "Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service". This is a time to celebrate the gift of Catholic education in America, which every student at JCA receives. Being a Catholic school, JCA takes part in the celebration and kicks off the week with mass and continues the celebration through the rest of the week. Many of the students here at JCA came from Catholic grade schools like St. Ray's, St. Paul's, St. Jude's, and many other schools that commemorate the week, as well. Catholic schools all around the country like to utilise Catholic Schools Week to heighten the knowledge and appreciation for the Catholic faith by offering a plethora of fun activities or events that tie into the meaning behind the week as a whole. Every year, the Catholic education community starts off the week on the last Sunday of January and continues on. There are currently 6,594 Catholic schools - 5,399 elementary; 1,195 secondary - sharing in the commemoration of our faith and education. In the 2013-2014 school year, a whopping number of 1,974,578 students enrolled in some form of Catholic education, whether it be kindergarten or high school. This week is time to celebrate JCA community and the people who help make it thrive as a wonderful establishment in which students are able to strengthen their knowledge, as well as their faith.
