Back to school Blues January 21, 2015 Andrew Casey
Returning to school after winter break may seem like a daunting task and in the first few weeks of school, you may find yourself tired, unmotivated, and unhappy. Here are some tools to fight those back to school blues and keep you motivated throughout the second semester:
Focus, focus, focus! Set goals and stick to them. You may be tempted to give in to distractions, but don't! Save them for after you've completed necessary tasks, and remember school should be your priority.
Reward yourself. It is okay to reward yourself after you achieve a goal or finish a task and will actually motivate you to finish more.
Start things. Motivating yourself to start a task is one of the hardest parts, and once you start a project, motivation will come much faster. So force yourself to start.
Don't forget to sleep! Sleep is one of the most important things that your body needs, so once you finish your homework, put down the phone and catch up on those Zzzs.
Look to the light at the end of the tunnel. Don't anticipate too much, however in just a few months you'll be on summer vacation, and it will be even sweeter if you know that you applied yourself second semester instead of just slacking off.
Relax. Don't let the stress get to you. Breathe and don't sweat the small stuff. Life is too short to be unhappy.
Look at the glass half full. You're halfway through the year! Go you! Rock on.
So while the second semester may seem frightening, don't worry. You're halfway through the year and some people consider the second semester easier than the first. For seniors, this is your last semester of high school! Enjoy it but don't slack off, colleges still care about your grades whether you've been accepted or not. So say goodbye to those back to school blues and enjoy the months to come and summer will be here before you know it.
